Bill Kealy

DJ & Collector, Ireland

Brief info

I started DJing in the mid 80s playing at Mod clubs and college nights where my sets consisted of 60s Mod sounds and Revival stuff. All through the 90s was spent attending Scooter Rallies as there wasn't much of a club scene in Ireland apart from Northern Soul nights which were never really my cup of tea. Then in around 2000 I started hearing of a new club in Manchester called The Hideaway Club playing Rhythm & Blues. After my first visit there I was hooked, my life was changed forever. Lots of clubs similar to The Hideaway Club started popping up around the UK, and I was lucky enough to start DJing regularly through the early 2000s. We started our own club For Dancers Only in 2005 mainly because nobody else in Ireland was playing R&B, and it has gone from strength to strength over the last 17 years. Since then, I've been fortunate enough to play records many times across Europe and visit many places where I never imagined I'd get to visit, I've also met so many great people who will be friends for life. At the moment I'm also a resident DJ at The Federal R&B Club in Crewe/Sheffield which to me is heaven. I'm very excited to be coming to play records in Leipzig with such a great line-up of DJs and also looking forward to visiting such a beautiful city... I might even sample some local beers – Bring it on!!!!
